Hog raising(Farm・OGAWA)
Waste material produced in dismantling work is used as litter for livestock barns, and as a construction material. General wastes such as food are collected, carefully sorted, and used as feed for hogs. As one part of our recycling efforts, we are working to raise “environmentally-friendly hogs.”
“Environmentally-friendly” hogs raised by Farm Ogawa
Some wastes produced in dismantling work, such as steel beams and wood, are used in our hog raising business. Steel beams are used in construction of livestock barns, and wood is made into chips for use as hog litter. Litter mixed with manure by the hogs becomes compost, and is useful for cultivating crops. To achieve more active recycling of this sort, we would like to use the hilly regions between mountains, which are almost unused, for the hog pens of Farm Ogawa. Also, in the Tokachi region there are many convenience stores and supermarkets, and thriving production of products such as bread and cakes. In the future, we hope to receive 5 tons per day of the huge volume of food leftovers produced on a daily basis, and by using this a hog feed, we plan to raise 2000–2500 moor hogs. Hogs raised under stress-free conditions have well-muscled flesh and the original, natural flavor of pork. Going forward, we will also be focusing our efforts on hog raising so that hogs can be of use as a notable product of Tokachi for invigorating the local region.
Business philosophy

We will contribute to the local community by effectively recycling organic wastes as resources, and preserving the natural environment. At the same time we will pursue the spiritual richness and serenity of disabled persons and their families through communion with nature and animals.

Purpose of business
Creating a recycling-oriented society
A tremendous amount of food waste is produced every day. By using this as livestock feed or compost, we will prevent CO2 emissions and water pollution, and reclaim waste as a resource.
Creation of a Tokachi brand

Based on the theory that “if pigs are allowed to drink moor water, which has passed through maifan stone and lignite, delicious fat will stably form in their intestines,” we feed pigs recycled products and allow them to drink from a moor hot spring. The result is delicious pork.

Employment of the disabled
In order to actively employ the disabled, we are having them sort wastes received from waste sources (food manufacturers). We promote greater independence of the disabled by paying the received fees as their wages, so they can cover part of their living expenses.
Reduction of company costs
If food wastes are disposed of through processes such as sorting, incineration and landfill disposal, it will increase costs of individual companies, and lead to major losses in terms of the environment. Our company carries out all of these steps with minimal cost, and thus contributes to corporate growth.
